Transboundary Cooperation and Sustainable Management of the Dniester River
This project was implemented by OSCE and UNECE. In the first phase of the project, a transboundary diagnostic study was conducted and a network of stakeholders established. It then went on to develop an action programme to improve the transboundary water management of the basin and a river basin website managed by Ukrainian and Moldavian authorities. The last phase focused on promoting the adoption of the Dniester river basin agreement formulated during phase two. Furthermore, it included efforts to facilitate cooperation between sanitary-epidemiological services of the two states and information exchange at national and basin-wide levels. Efforts to conserve biodiversity (with focus on fisheries) and raise public awareness and media coverage of the Dniester River basin environmental issues were made during this phase.
