Partners of the project are towns and town council in Mexico and Guatemala, Government of Mexico, Government of Guatemala, IUCN, Tapachula Water, COAPATAP, TUXTLA Chico Town Council, UNESCO and Foundation Gonzalo Rio Arronte (FGRA). The area struggles with problems of floods, water pollution, water scarcity, poverty and social inequity. The project aims to consolidate mechanisms for coordination and management of water resources between the riparian countries, gather information for comprehensive catchment management plans and build alliances for their implementation. Pilot projects will be initiated to implement priority actions identified through the management plans. The project will also work to raise awareness of the environmental and social problems in the area and facilitate information sharing.
